ENC Summary

Single-source

Phys.org is currently the only allowlisted source on the desk for this item.

Missing information

  • No second independent outlet is on the desk for this item yet.

What to watch next

  • Whether the original outlet issues a correction or update.
  • Whether a second independent allowlisted outlet publishes on the same development.

Claim states describe the source record, not independently verified truth. Green and cyan never mean “confirmed.”

Phys.org reports the following. ENC is republishing it as an attributed briefing, not as independently confirmed fact. If this item is false or incomplete, the responsibility sits with Phys.org, which released it. Global climate and weather forecasting use predictive models that divide Earth's atmosphere into a grid, with each section typically covering tens to hundreds of kilometers. Now a new model, run by a team at the University of Tokyo, has narrowed this grid spacing to just 220 meters (720 feet). This higher resolution eliminated instances of "popcornlike" rain—bursts of heavy rain that appear in simulations but not in real life—providing more accurate predictions of extreme local weather from a global model.
